__I know y'all aren't gonna really believe this, but I do make mistakes. No, really! I do! Anyhow, last month I relayed to y'all the information from "Fixin Tubreak" about the well in ancient Syene being involved in the1st measurement of the earth's circumference. I said that Syene was right on the Tropic of Capricorn. Well, I couldn't get my finger off of that send button, when suddenly here's another email from "Fixin Tubreak" !! I don't know why I said Tropic of Capricorn, when it's really the Tropic of Cancer. I think I have an unconscious natural aversion to that word Cancer! Or it could be my daughter is right, I suffer from that

The
Youngers

__The history and characters of the Old West have been highly romanticized, exaggerated, sensationalized, and sometimes totally fabricated. Dime novelists, pulp fiction writers, the "Buffalo Bill" type of Western shows, and the motion picture industry, have depicted most of the people who

lived in the Old West as larger than life heroes.
__Interestingly, most fans of the period, and this includes admirers from around the globe, as well as Americans, refuse to believe that the men and women who lived in the American Old West were normal human beings with the same various blends of both good and bad behavioral traits as we have today. They want their Western heroes bigger than life. They want them romanticized. They love it when the media makes movies and legends out of them.
__Now add to this strange mixture a healthy dose of what we popularly know today as political correctness. We have 100-170 or so years worth of the ever changing views and opinions of our society thrown into the mix.
__Along the way, we've only had a dash of facts and a sprinkling of truth to add to this recipe that we are going to name LEGEND.
__The SAD, SAD thing about it all is that the true, factual, story is, was, and always will be the much better story.......

--Here, we will make our best attempt at that "better story."....
__It seems that prior to the bloody Kansas-Missouri Border Wars, the Younger Family had always enjoyed a rather prominent status in American Society.
__Henry Washington Younger, father of the notorious "Younger Brothers," was a very prosperous farmer, and businessman, with many ventures including the U.S. Mail contract for 500 miles. He was a slave owner, and a Southerner in sympathy and in fact. However, Henry was a staunch Unionist, for he felt that Secession would be disastrous to all concerned.
__Altogether, Henry and his wife, the former Bursheba Fristoe, had 14 children, for which they both strove to see that each received the best education available in the region.
__The Youngers decended from the ruling family of Strasburg, on the Rhine river of Europe.
__Henry's grandmother was the daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Henry "Lighthorse Harry" Lee who was a distinguished cavalry

commander in the American Revolution, a close friend of George Washington, a member of the Continental Congress (1785-88), governor of Virginia (1791-94), commander of the forces that suppressed the Whiskey Rebellion (1794), and a member of the U.S. Congress (1799-1801). He was also the father of the great Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
__Bursheba Fristoe, Henry's wife, was the daughter of Richard Fristoe, who fought at the Battle of New Orleans under Andrew Jackson.

He was a grand nephew of Chief Justice John Marshall of Virginia. Richard became a judge himself, and was one of the first members of the Missouri legisltaure.
__So, what happened? How in the world could such a prominent family produce a gang of sons who would become some of the world's most notorious "outlaws"?
Tune in next month and find out!!
